It's 03:30am on 6th September 2024, the alarm didn't even need to sound. I was already awake.
Nightmare? No. Nerves? No. Excitement? Absolutely.
Today was the day I got to connect my passions, photography, mountain biking and adventure and the public sector. What a cocktail!
After twenty years working in the public and third sector and the last five at a senior level, my 2024 has a different shape to it.
In the spirit of adventure I've taken a different route this year, one which follows my heart. I've created more space to prioritise my young family, channelled my career experience into a range of consultancy projects in the social housing sector and re-engaged with my creative pursuits through Clark Photographic.
So, I didn't need any excuses to be up so early in the morning. This, is my dream.
Along with good friend and colleague Patrick West, we headed off to Horton-in-Ribblesdale to capture the exploits of c.600 intrepid participants, taking part in the 2024 Public Sector Challenge (PSC). A 24 mile route, with 1600m of climbing on the glorious Yorkshire Three Peaks of Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.
This event is superbly well co-ordinated and managed. With support from private sector partners: Norse Group, Socitm, Local Government Association, The Municipal Journal, Cratus Group and Solace PSC it has grown significantly since Brentwood Council CEO Jonathan Stephenson first led his team of colleagues on a charity walk back in 2022.
Jonathan and all the participants maintain a laser sharp focus on the goal. Fundraising for Cancer Research UK. Jonathan described having lost too many colleagues and people close to him from Cancer, this is a man on a mission. With such focus and determination, it's little surprise the team have smashed £220k of their £250k target at the time of posting.

What's not to like? A day in the hills, capturing stunning views with my mate. Joyous camaraderie amongst some brilliant people, oh did I mention Olympic medalist sprinter Richard Kilty leading the presentation ceremony?
One thing's for sure, this day will live long in the memory and we're looking forward to capturing more adventures in the future.
